Everyday Simple, Healthy Habits for The Year Ahead

Let’s start by saying: you’re okay just the way you are. We are not here to change you but to support you as everyone attempts to be their best self in the year ahead. With all the upheaval and recent health concerns for everyone and what looks like a new reality for the future, we know everyone is struggling with good habits at times. By the middle of the month, the resolutions that we made on January 1st tend to give way like an overflowing dam to our old ways. This year, make an intention to focus on self-acceptance and to create good, new habits.

Habits are a process, not simply a fad that will ultimately fail, which in turn make us feel worse than we did before we started this whole resolution thing in the first place. The goal is to live well every day by making small, incremental changes, and to, most importantly, keep it real.

Below we share some incredibly easy and sustainable ways to live a little healthier and support your overall wellness. From simple mindful breathing to how consuming aloe vera benefits your health, choose some habits that resonate with you and then pass it on to a friend for a self-loving trip around the sun.

BREATHE AND CENTER

Remembering to breathe might not sound like a real thing but have you ever been couped up at home, watching the news, or on social media and realized that you’re holding your breath? Yeah, we’ve all been there, wrapped up something outside of our control and unaware. Set aside a few minutes a day to be mindful of your breathing because deep steady breaths support brain function, cellular health, and most importantly a sense of well-being. First thing in the morning is a great time for this practice, maybe even set an intention or two to focus on for the day. Then, you can check your Instagram stream or Facebook.

BREAK YOUR FAST, THE RIGHT WAY

Even if you’re not a morning person, don’t skip your morning meal. We know intermittent fasting is all the rage, but some nutrition in the morning gives your body the fuel it needs to keep you grounded (a.k.a. not hangry) until you are able to have a nourishing and filling lunch. We get it, mornings look different for everyone and tend to be rushed. That’s why we love nutritious grab-and-go options like smoothies, overnight oats, chia pudding, yogurt and granola, or boiled free-range eggs and a fiber packed granola bar.

WORK BETTER

Work weeks can be chaotic and no two days ever look the same. There are a few ways to integrate wellness into your work day including preparing healthy meals and snacks, drinking LOTS of water (pump the breaks on drinking a whole pot of coffee), get up from your desk to do some quick stretches or go for a walk, or even try some meditation apps for on-the-go.

DETOX AND NOURISH

While it's true, your body is designed to detox itself naturally, helping your body along with a seasonal cleanse is a great idea. Whether it's an elimination diet or juice cleanse, most of us could benefit from giving our overworked body a little break now and then. As an everyday habit, add more plants to your diet. Many veggies have detoxification properties, and one of our favorites is aloe vera. Pure Aloe Vera Juice benefits the body as it is packed with over 200 different nutrients, 75 of which are bioavailable, including calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper and manganese. Aloe Vera contains natural enzymes beneficial to digestion, and the amino acids required by the body. Pour aloe vera juice into your morning smoothies, grab an aloe water after a workout, or even add a capsule to your daily routine.

SWEAT IT OUT

Maybe you already have a gym routine, maybe you don’t. We get it, life happens and we barely get through the day let alone follow a routine. Those are the type of days we need to boost those endorphins the most! This is a great time of year to transition yourself into trying new activities, sweat out the stress, and feel more energized. Walking, hiking, yoga, spinning, swimming, there is an endless option of activities you can do to get in a quality 30-minute workout any day of the week. Get outside and get some fresh air.

GOOD NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT

How we end the day, is just as important as how we start it. Try to ease into your evening with a pre-bed routine as it encourages better habits that lead to better sleep. Whether it's a soothing soak or determining your priorities for the day ahead, formulating a nighttime ritual can help you achieve a deeper sleep so that you have more energy and alertness on a regular basis.

Maybe some years, you need to take extreme measures to boost health, while other year’s we may just need a simple inspection of our daily habits. A little adjustment here or there can make us feel, look, and live better than ever.
