Poor dietary habits combined with poor food quality are just one side effect of modern life that has resulted in digestive issues for many people. Nevertheless, though Aloe Vera and apple cider vinegar have similarities in support of healthy digestion, they are two very different types of foods.
Aloe Vera is classified as a flowering succulent from which all products for consumption, whether drinks or foodstuffs, are derived or prepared. Used for centuries for its many health benefits, Aloe Vera, when properly prepared, can be eaten or applied topically to the skin and is available in everything from juice to gel.
Apple cider vinegar is a by-product of apples, a fruit, which is derived from the juice of crushed and pressed apples. Left to ferment with yeast, cider is produced when sugars from the juice gradually change to alcohol. Vinegar is derived from the cider when bacteria slowly convert the alcohol into acids, one of which, acetic acid, is vinegar. Consequently, the acids act to kill the bacteria and yeast that produced them, resulting in apple cider vinegar.
Of its many health benefits, Aloe Vera supports general wellness throughout the digestive track due to its acid buffering and soothing properties. The GI tract extends from the mouth through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine to the rectum. Inflammation of the digestive system can in large part be related to a poor diet, one lacking essential nutrients and fibers, and high in refined sugars, artificial flavors, ingredients and coloring. Such a poor diet can easily lead to inflammation in the digestive system. Recent research has even uncovered a physical link between digestion and mood.
Aloe Vera is a nutrient-dense superfood that can offer benefits for the GI tract. Scientists have identified more than 75 constituents in Aloe Vera, mainly vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes that benefits digestive wellness. It contains eight important enzymes, two of which, amylase and lipase, help to digest fat and breakdown carbohydrates and sugars, aiding the digestive system. As a water-dense plant, it helps the body stay hydrated. Aloe Vera has also been shown to promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut to further support digestive wellness and a healthy inflammation response.

Apple cider vinegar contains properties that aid in flushing the body of toxins and cleanses the liver. With many of the important vitamins, minerals and alkalinity necessary to remove toxins, apple cider vinegar removes toxic substances from the liver and regulates the body’s pH levels necessary to reduce inflammation which may lead to diseases or infections.
With digestive issues just one side effect of modern life, many people are turning to natural remedies that support digestive wellness. A balanced diet of whole foods low in processed sugars, chemicals, artificial ingredients, and preservatives is a very good start. Aloe Vera and apple cider vinegar should be added to this diet as each aid in promoting healthy digestion and benefits digestive wellness. Since both are natural with no known interactions, there is no reason not to incorporate both Aloe Vera and apple cider vinegar into your diet!
